if you still want this update and your on cd rom version of bf1942 you need the new exe

to get bf1942 to work again

Thanks mortarman, good info. We'll be sure to include an advisory of this when updating the Battlefield 1942 & Desert Combat installation instruction documents, so that its clear installation of the no-CD is no longer optional.

You may have also seen ridgeraiser's post on Team-SiMPLE that indicated it may also be possible to simply re-enable SecDrv.sys after the KB update disables it.

So that might be available as a workaround too, even though leaving SecDrv disabled might be the safer and better option, if you can otherwise eliminate the game's dependency on it (via using a no-CD fix or similar).

Thanks mortarman and Trench! This Windows update borked my BF1942 as well - but instead of the patch I thought I would try the less intrusive approach: http://team-simple.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3310 and worked like a charm.

Yes. Thanks so much! I reinstalled BF which didn't fix the issue so have to setup all my keyboard settings again and reinstall all the patches. Ugh. At least it is working again before I reinstalled Windows 7!
